How to Read This Site
This site has been rebuilt around one job: developing the investor mindset. What follows is how to read what is here.
This site is about investment, not prediction.
Most commentary is built for immediacy: what just happened, what might happen next, and how to react. That rewards speed and confidence. It rarely rewards judgment over a full cycle.
What is collected here takes a different view. The focus is a reference you can reuse: value, risk, and the economics underneath both. Long horizons, structural forces, and the conditions that repeat, whether or not they are in the headlines.
What is This Site
This is not a news feed. It is not a trading service. It does not offer forecasts, price targets, or buy and sell calls.
The essays are a framework for thinking about investment. They look at how systems behave when incentives shift, when credibility erodes, and when financial abstraction hits physical reality. They are written to be revisited, not consumed once.
If you want certainty or a ticker, this will not be useful. If you make your own decisions and are tired of being blown around by the information onslaught, it might be.
Timeless Principles
A few ideas show up throughout the archive. They are the reference, not the trade.
Cycles matter more than narratives. Stories change quickly. Structural forces do not.
Credibility precedes price. Markets respond to confidence before they respond to math.
Settlement matters more than leverage. What can be promised indefinitely is not the same as what can be delivered.
Physical reality constrains financial abstraction. Systems built on claims eventually answer to what exists.
Value is judged, then acted on. A reference is useless if it never becomes a decision about capital: money, time, skills, and attention.
These are not moral claims. They are observations from history, markets, and repeated failure modes.
How to Read the Archive
The writing is accumulative. Later essays read better once the earlier frameworks are familiar.
If you are new, start here:
- How My Portfolio is Positioned. The job in one example: allocation without an advisor, hands-off balance versus stock picking and timing.
- The Gold Oil Ratio. A reference point for growth versus capital preservation, then a positioning conclusion.
- How to Read This Site and the About page. Who it is for, and what it is not.
None of these require agreement. They benefit from patience. The history pieces about currency pegs, freegold, trade, cycles, etc, are the economics under the judgment.
Why Relaunch Now
This site is not back because of one event.
It is back because the gap between short-term commentary and a usable reference for value has widened. Attention is fragmented, the volume of noise is up, and first principles get lost under reaction. That is how self-directed investors freeze.
Periods like this reward people who spend less time reacting and more time orienting. When systems work smoothly, first principles feel abstract. When they do not, those principles become practical again.
This relaunch is a return to that work.
A Final Note
The goal is not to convince, alarm, or recruit. It is to clarify, so decisions have fewer surprises and fewer unforced errors.
If this way of thinking resonates, read slowly and selectively. If it does not, that is fine.
Either way, the cycles will continue.
About the Author
This is written by someone interested less in prediction than in structure: how systems behave over time, where incentives break down, and how physical limits eventually assert themselves.
The focus is not trading, timing, or persuasion. It is a reference for investment, so decisions can be made with fewer surprises and fewer unforced errors.
My background spans a range of places and industries. I am a husband, father, and health enthusiast. Professionally I have worked across natural resources, investing, and entrepreneurship. Those are asset-heavy, cyclical fields, where a bad allocation is visible, permanent, and costly. That is the lens.
